Frequently Asked Questions

1 . What is the process for becoming a new patient?

All new patients begin with a new patient intake appointment with one of our clinicians. This session is used to gather background information, understand the presenting concerns, ensure goodness of fit, determine the most appropriate clinician, and answer parent questions.

For children in middle school and younger, the intake is typically parent-only. High school–aged clients and older usually participate.

After the intake, the patient will either be scheduled with a clinician based on availability or placed on the waitlist. A clinician will reach out when an opening becomes available. If it is determined our practice is not the best fit for your needs, you will be provided with referrals.

2 . How long is the wait once placed on the waitlist?

Wait times vary, as therapy openings are not always predictable. On average, patients typically wait 2–3 months for after-school appointment times. Families with greater flexibility in day and time are often able to be scheduled more quickly. You are always welcome to reach out to inquire about your position on the waitlist.

3 . How should I prepare my child for the first session? What should I tell them about therapy?

Keep explanations simple and age-appropriate. You can tell your child that therapy is a place to talk, play, and learn skills to help with feelings, worries, or challenges. Let them know they are not in trouble, there are no right or wrong answers, and it’s okay to feel nervous.

4. How long is each session?

Individual and parenting sessions are typically 45 - 60  minutes in duration. Evaluation sessions vary significantly depending on the type of test being completed. The length of each evaluation session will be discussed before testing begins.
